Middlefield, Ohio, is a village in Geauga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,240 at the 2010 census. It is the home of the world’s most oversized cuckoo clock and the Geauga Maple Leaf’s baseball team.

The village was founded in 1814 by Ezekiel Wilcox and named after his hometown of Middlefield, Connecticut. It was initially part of Trumbull County before being split into Geauga County in 1807.

Middlefield is located at 41°26′47″N 81°2′42″W (41.446194, -81.045556).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.47 square miles (3.81 km2), all land.

Middlefield has a humid continental climate.

In 1814, Ezekiel Wilcox, a native of Middlefield, Connecticut, came to the Western Reserve in Ohio with his family. They settled on 300 acres (1.2 km2) of land that would later become the village of Middlefield. Wilcox built the first cabin near what is now the intersection of Main and Benton Streets. In 1824, a log schoolhouse was erected on land donated by Wilcox. It was replaced by a brick building in 1830 which served students until the mid-20th century.

The first church in Middlefield was the Congregational Church, founded in 1826. It was followed by the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1832 and the Baptist Church in 1833. Finally, a Quaker Meeting House was established in 1840.

The first doctor in Middlefield was Dr. Elijah Beebe, who arrived in 1834. The first lawyer was Charles Chapin, who came to town in 1837. Martin Hartshorn opened the first store in 1838.

Middlefield Township was organized in March 1848, with Ezekiel Wilcox as its first trustee. The village of Middlefield was incorporated in April 1888.

In 1893, the world’s giant cuckoo clock was built by Henry Germany for the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago. After the fair, it was bought by Jacob Muth and brought to Middlefield on Main Street, where it has been on display ever since. The clock is 22 feet (6.7 m) tall, and 12 feet (3.7 m) wide and was built in 1893.

The first bank in Middlefield was established in 1902. The first library opened in 1904.

Middlefield is home to the Geauga Maple Leafs, a baseball team that plays in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League. The team plays its home games at Sprenger Stadium, which opened in 2000 and seated 2,500 people.

The Cardinal Local School District serves Middlefield. The district has one elementary school, middle school, and high school.
