Swine Creek Reservation Middlefield, OH

The Swine Creek Nature Preserve is an Amish farm-turned-park that has been open for roughly 20 years. The park still maintains many original structures, such as the stone barn that holds the worm composting bins and the horse-drawn wagon that transports straw bales for the cows. The park is run by the Geauga Park District and collects fees for access to the park. The park is not limited to the Amish community, though, and is open to the public for a fee.
Swine Creek Reservation is a beautiful, clean, and safe park, with multiple recreational activities for people of all ages. The park has seven pavilions for your use, and there are numerous playgrounds for children of all ages, in addition to horseshoes, sand volleyball courts, tetherball, and table tennis. You can rent the pavilions from the Geauga Park District. Pavilions are available for rental from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, and you can rent the shelter between April and November..

The park has 11 miles of trails for walking, hiking, running, and cycling. Geauga Park District offers both a beginner and an intermediate mountain bike skills course and a cross country ski course at Swine Creek Reservation. The trails are ideal for running and hiking, and you can use them even if you are not on a bike. You can use the intermediate trail to get a feel for mountain biking.

There are several gardens throughout the park, including a historic, restored African-American community playground (open for rent only on weekends) and an oak-shaded playground that is heated. The playground is located near one of the tennis courts, making it perfect for running children. Swine Creek also has some disc golf, a horseshoe pit, and volleyball courts, as well as the traditional playgrounds. Swine Creek Reservation also has several hiking trails, which allow for a variety of scenic experiences. Swine Creek is located just one hour west of Akron, Ohio. There are also multiple entrances, allowing for park access from all directions.

We always take a handful of hikes in the woods here at Swine Creek Reservation every summer, and every time we visit, we discover a new trail that we didn’t know. While we only took a few hikes this year, we saw many new areas, making it feel like we were exploring new territory. While we never know what we’re going to find each time we explore, we always have fun experiencing it.
Other recreational activities available at the park include swimming, playgrounds, fishing, biking, hiking, and bird watching. While the park is in Geauga County, The Swine Creek Reservation is located in the western part of Ohio and is situated on Swine Creek, and has a stream that connects to Lake Erie.
