Headwaters Park

The Headwaters Park in Claridon and Huntsburg Townships, Ohio, is a 926-acre reservation that the Geauga Park District leases from the City of Akron—located at 13365 Old State Rd, Huntsburg, OH 44046, along the East Branch Reservoir. The park is an excellent location for people to enjoy hiking, fishing, and bird-watching, with a large display of nature and wildlife. It is 8.6 miles away from Middlefield, OH. 

The park is jointly managed by the city of Akron and the Geauga Park District to preserve natural areas while providing recreational enjoyment and improved outdoor education and activity options. Visitors to the Park can take one of the five trails that total 4.7 miles. In addition, two miles of the Buckeye Trail are located here, an excellent place for people to hike, bike, and run. The park also has a large pond for fishing and is an excellent place for bird-watching.

Headwaters Park is home to many species of birds that live in the natural environment. Bald eagles, osprey, and great blue herons can be spotted here, along with loons! Boating with a 1 1/2 horsepower electric motor limit has been provided for visitors who want some fun on lakes while visiting Headwater’s park. It includes both fishing opportunities as well-you might even catch bass!!

The East Branch Reservoir, completed in 1939, is the result of damming the upper reaches of the Cuyahoga River. It is a beautiful waterway created to provide flood control and maintain an abundant supply of drinking quality sources. Still, it also helps keep downstream areas happy by replenishing their reserves during dry periods!

The Geauga Park District offers a variety of activities for visitors to the East Branch Reservoir, including fishing and boating on scenic waters. In addition, visitors can enjoy bird watching or horseback riding through Headwaters Park while there! There are also hiking trails that lead you up into surrounding scenic views of nature’s beauty.

In addition, bald eagles have been spotted soaring over this reservoir as cormorants sun themselves on islands while sandpipers visit during the summer months too!
